Twelve Polk State baseball players took time away from studies and practice on May 1 to give back to students in Polk County.
The players went Spessard L. Holland Elementary School in Bartow, where they visited classrooms and read to students.
"I had a blast reading to the students and answering their questions," said sophomore Luke Parker.
"The kids were really into it, and it felt good to put a smile on their faces and promote the importance of reading at the same time."
Players also spoke about the importance of education and what it's like to be a student-athlete in college.
"Our guys understand how fortunate they are to be student-athletes in college, and getting out to Spessard L. Holland Elementary and reading and speaking with the students was a great way for them to give back some," said Head Coach Al Corbeil.
