Eagles shut out St. Pete 10-0

Polk State blanked St. Petersburg College 10-0 in seven innings tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Eagles scored the only run they would need in the third inning. 

Jonah Garrison led off with a single, moved to third on a hit-and-run single by Zach Diewert, and scored on Zach Biermann's sacrifice fly. 

An inning later, Zach Scott singled and raced to third on a hit-and-run single by Marquis Orozco, who was out when hit by a ball off the bat of Garrison. After he stole second, he and Scott scored on Diewert's single. 

Diewert stole second and scored on Skylar Frey's double down the left-field line, making it 4-0. 

In the fifth inning, Raudy Martinez reached first on an error, took third on Isaiah Cullum's single, and scored on a wild pitch. 

Three more runs in the sixth increased the lead to 8-0. Diewert took first on an error and scored when Frey doubled to center field. 

Frey swiped second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and came home on Cole Warken's single. 

After stealing second, Warken scored when Cullum singled to center. 

In the seventh, the Eagles loaded the bases on three straight walks. Garrison and Diewert scored on wild pitches, giving Polk State the 10-0 run-rule win. 

Justin Tworek (1-2) earned the win. In six innings he walked one and struck out six. 

Chavez Fernander worked the final inning, striking out two. 

The Eagles collected 13 hits. 

Frey raised his batting average to .430, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, a run, a walk, and a stolen base. 

Diewert singled twice, scored three runs, walked twice, stole two bases, and drove in two runs. 

Scott went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. 

Garrison had two singles, three runs, a walk, and a stolen base. 

Cullum singled twice and drove in a run. 

Warken collected a single, a run, an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.

The Eagles (18-5, 2-0, No. 3 FCSAA, No. 11 NJCAA) have won five straight games, scoring at least 10 runs in their last four victories. They hit the road tomorrow for a 1 p.m. game at St. Petersburg.
