Eagles beat Bucs 7-3

Polk State beat Florida Southwestern 7-3 tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Eagles have won four in a row, including three straight against Florida Southwestern. 

The Buccaneers scored first, getting a run in the second inning on a single, a stolen base, an error, and a sacrifice fly. 

The Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. 

Zach Scott led off with a single and took third on Zach Biermann's double to left field. Both runners scored on a single by Isaiah Cullum

After Cullum was out at third on Raudy Martinez's ground ball, Martinez stole second, advanced to third on a single by Marquis Orozco, and scored on Jonah Garrison's bunt. 

The Buccaneers cut the lead to 3-2 in the third on a single, a stolen base, an error, and a single. 

Polk State went up 4-2 in the bottom of the inning. Zach Diewert singled, stole second, took third on a pickoff attempt, and scored on Scott's double. 

The Eagles added another run in the fifth when Cole Warken reached first on an error, stole second, took third when the catcher's throw went into center field, and scored on Diewert's sacrifice fly. 

In the seventh, Skylar Frey reached second on an error and scored on Warken's single, increasing the lead to 6-2. 

The Eagles added their final run in the eighth when Garrison drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Scott. 

In the ninth, the Buccaneers scored a run on three straight singles and a fielder's choice. 

They had runners at second and third with two outs when Zach Schneider came in from the bullpen and pitched to one batter, getting a ground out to end the game. 

Jordan Spicer started on the mound for the Eagles but had to leave the game in the fourth inning due to soreness in his pitching arm. He allowed two runs (one unearned) on three hits. 

Chad Tworek earned the win in relief, working four and two-thirds of an inning and giving up a run on five hits while striking out four. 

Cole Crowder pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit. 

Cullum had two RBI, a walk, and a run. 

Garrison also collected two RBI. 

Scott scored twice, walked, and drove in a run. 

The Eagles (23-7, 7-2, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 10 NJCAA) travel to Avon Park on Friday to play South Florida State College at 6 p.m.
