
Polk State won its third straight game tonight, beating Florida Southwestern 7-1 in Fort Myers.
The Eagles broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the sixth inning. They added a run in the seventh and two in the ninth.
Starting pitcher Shameko Smith earned the win. In six innings, he allowed an unearned run on two hits, walking one and striking out eight.
Chad Tworek and Justin Gill followed Smith on the mound, and Zach Schneider got the save.
The Eagles had 12 hits.
Raudy Martinez went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and three stolen bases.
Zach Diewert had two singles, a run, an RBI, and two stolen bases.
Marquis Orozco tripled and scored a run.
Zach Scott drew three walks, scored twice, and stole a base.
Zach Biermann singled and doubled.
Skylar Frey had a pair of singles and a run.
The Eagles (33-10, 17-5, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 8 NJCAA) face Florida Southwestern again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
