Polk State won its 40th game of the season tonight, shutting out State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota 2-0 at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.

The victory ties a school record for most wins in the regular season.

The Eagles also set a regular-season record for doubles with 109.

The Eagles have won 10 straight games, including two straight shutouts against the Manatees.

Both teams traded shutout innings until the bottom of the fourth.

Raudy Martinez led off the inning by hitting the first pitch for a single. He moved to second on Skylar Frey's sacrifice bunt and took third on a wild pitch.

Zach Diewert followed with a walk, and when he stole second the catcher's throw sailed into the outfield, allowing Martinez to score for a 1-0 Eagles lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Frey led off by reaching second base on an error. After moving to third on a fielder's choice by Diewert, Frey scored on Zach Scott's single, putting the Eagles up 2-0.

The Manatees put the potential tying runs on base in the top of the ninth when, with two out, two singles put runners at first and second. Zach Schneider then recorded the final out on a strikeout, earning his 10th save.

Drew Marino (4-0) started and earned the win. In six and two-thirds of an inning he allowed four hits, walked none, and struck out six.

Luis Ferrer relieved Marino in the seventh with two out and runners at first and second and got the third out on a ground ball.

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Scott had a single and an RBI.

Bradley Harmon singled and walked.

Isaiah Cullum had a single and a stolen base.

The Eagles (40-10, 24-5, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 6 NJCAA) play their final regular-season game Friday against State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota at 6 p.m. in Bradenton.
