The Polk State Eagles soared to their third straight win today, beating IMG Academy 88-54 in Winter Haven.
The Eagles had a 49-25 lead at halftime.
"I'm really pleased with the team's intensity for 40 minutes," said Head Coach Matt Furjanic."
"That was the difference tonight versus a couple of other recent games we had. I'm proud of our players because they came out and played intensely for 40 minutes.
"I thought our defensive effort was great. We held them to 54 points, which was a lot different than our last game when we gave up 76.
"Plus our players were very unselfish. They really moved the ball well. We got the ball inside and scored a lot of points inside early.
"There were a lot of good signs. It's a positive step, but we still want to be a better team next week than we are now. "
Dayjar Dickson led Polk State with 23 points.
"I thought Dayjar played an unbelievable game tonight," said Furjanic. "He set the tone offensively and defensively.
Sophomore guard Ron Lubin made his first career start for the Eagles.
"We determine playing time on five criteria: defense, intensity, attitude, shot selection, and turnovers," said Furjanic .
"Ron works so hard in practice, and he gives us high energy. Lately we haven't been getting some of the energy off the bench that we were looking for, so I decided to give Ron a chance, and tonight Ron definitely earned some playing time for the next game."
The Eagles (14-5, No. 7 FCSAA) play College of Central Florida (No. 4 FCSAA) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Ocala.
