The Polk State Eagles soared to a 94-60 win over DME Academy tonight in Winter Haven.

Although the Eagles trailed 8-7 in the opening minutes, they took a 12-10 lead at the 14-minute mark and finished the first half up 49-26.

"I'm pleased with the team's performance," said Head Coach Matt Furjanic.

"We had a tough loss to Central Florida on Wednesday, and I was kind of worried that we would be a little flat for a game like this, but our guys really came out to play. They played really well together tonight and I was glad to see that."

Dominique Reid scored 17 points to lead the Eagles.

Elijah Cottrill finished with 16 points.

Kahleek Bakare-Whyte added 14, while Darelle Porter scored 11 and Reger Baker had 10.

The Eagles played without Troy Simons, who went home due to a death in the family.

Polk State (14-6, No. 7 FCSAA) starts Suncoast Conference play Wednesday at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota in Bradenton at 7 p.m.

"We're about as ready as we could be," said Furjanic. "It comes down to nine games now. Our conference is very tough. Every team is doing well, so it should be a great conference race."
