The Polk State Eagles downed the Hillsborough Community College Hawks 70-65 today in Suncoast Conference action in Winter Haven.

The Eagles had a 43-35 advantage at halftime in a game in which they never trailed.

The Hawks cut the lead to two points with 3:30 left to play, but they failed to get any closer.

The win marks the third straight for Polk State, and it improves to 2-0 in the Suncoast Conference.

"Our players responded with a good defensive effort, holding Hillsborough to 65 points," said Head Coach Matt Furjanic.

"Hillsborough is a very physical team, and they did a good job of attacking us with penetration.

"Their outside shots were very effective, as they made 10 three-pointers, which accounted for 30 of their 65 points."

Reger Baker led the Eagles with 16 points.
