Polk State softball went 1-1 today at the Dodgertown Invitational in Vero Beach.

Against St. Johns River State College, Lauren West pitched well enough to win but the Eagles lost 1-0.

West threw a complete-game four-hitter, allowing one unearned run while striking out nine.

Taylor Baker went two-for-three with a double, while Kassidy Kennard and Harlee Rimes had a hit apiece.

West and the Eagles got a win in following game, topping Florida State College at Jacksonville 5-4.

West (3-3) picked up the win in relief with two shutout innings.

Riley Caylor started and went four and two-thirds of an inning.

With the bases loaded and one out in the fifth, Danielle Gizoski came out of the bullpen and ended the threat. She got the first hitter she faced to ground into a fielder's choice putout on the runner trying to score from third. Then with two out Gizoski struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Amber Butler had a single, a double, and two RBI.

Erica Morrissey doubled and drove in a run.

Taylor Baker had a single and an RBI.

The Eagles (9-7) return to Vero Beach on Sunday to play College of Central Florida at noon and Indian River State College at 2 p.m.
