Terwilliger’s double gives Eagles win in first game of state tourney

Autumn Terwilliger doubled home two runs to break a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Polk State went on to beat Palm Beach State College 4-2 today in the NCJAA District/FCSAA State Softball Tournament in Vero Beach. 

Palm Beach put runners at first and second with one out in the top of the seventh, but pitcher Lauren West retired the next two batters on a foul popup and a ground out.

West pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Erica Morrissey got the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the first when she slammed an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a solo home run.

Palm Beach got a run in the fifth to tie it at 1-1.

The Eagles responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, taking a 2-1 lead.

Palm Beach came right back in the top of the sixth score a run and tie the game 2-2.

Shelisa Oliver singled and scored a run.

Harlee Rimes had a single, a stolen base, and an RBI.

Amber Butler went one-for-two with a run scored

Kacie Booth singles, and Kassidy Kennard scored a run.

The Eagles play Central Florida today at 5 p.m.
